What We Do
Act Now was founded in 2020 by a group of artists, who saw the world in pain and wanted to uplift those in need.
Our Mission
Our mission is to create and host artistic performances to bring communities together. Our vision is to educate, spread awareness, and inspire our audience to act now to shape a future we can all identify with.
What We’ve Achieved
A successful inaugural showcase of monologues benefitting the Black community. After an outburst of protests tied to injustice and police brutality, we formed our collective and created a showcase via Zoom. The goal of our showcase was to raise $10,000 to equally distribute amongst 5 Black owned organizations, serving their communities. We overcame many obstacles putting together a digital showcase, especially in the midst of a pandemic. Our passion and dedication helped see us through.
Proudly partnered with SocialWorks, founded by Chance the Rapper, who helped us organize, and promote the event. SocialWorks generously matched the first $5k in donations.
Our inaugural showcase event raised $17,238.00 from our first showcase and distributed the proceeds to 5 Black-owned organizations based in Chicago: Assata’s Daughters, Black Girls Break Bread, Brave Space Alliance, GoodKids MadCity and Let us Breathe Collective.
Over 200 people attended showcase via Zoom, and all stayed engaged throughout the performance and into the following panel discussion with the cast.
